Eulindra Lim Chia Neo
A trailblazing female graphic designer in the 1960s and 1970s
In a creative industry dominated by males during the 1960s, Eulindra Lim stood out as the rare female graphic designer. She is most well-known for her work branding hotels. In Singapore, she created the logos of the Dynasty Hotel and Ming Court Hotel. She also worked on overseas projects such as the Bali Beach Hotel and Hotel Indonesia in Jakarta.
Formerly known as Pansy Lim, she headed to London in the late 1950s to study graphic art at the St. Martin's School and the Central School of Art before finishing a diploma at the London School of Printing. She then finished off her studies in Switzerland. After four and a half years overseas, she returned to Singapore.
As an art director at S.H. Benson, Lim was named the "Best Asian Designer" in 1966 by the Creative Circle. It was just one of many awards she picked up in her career. She later joined advertising firm International Designs, and married its managing director and creative director, John Nicoll in 1967. After their divorce, she setup her own firm, Eulindra Designs.
Lim was the eldest daughter of Lim Yew Hock, the second chief minister of Singapore.
