The Industrial Design Centre was set up in 1965 under the government's Economic Development Board to offer design services to industries. It was absorbed into the Singapore Institute of Standards and Industrial Research (SISIR) in 1972. Besides offering its services to the industry, its team of overseas-trained industrial designers and graphic designers also helped government agencies produce graphic and exhibition design. It was privatised in 1981.
