The set of three stamps were released to celebrate Singapore's rapid development since independence through science and industry. Each of the stamps depicted an aspect of this. The 10-cents stamp featured Singapore's first satellite earth stations at Sentosa which put Singapore in satellite communication with almost two-thirds of the world. The 35-cents stamp showcased oil refineries as the country had grown to be the largest regional centre. Finally, the 75-cents stamp depicted its advance in medical sciences such that it had achieved a low mortality rate of 5.4 per thousand by the 1970s.
