Besides the typical use of the crescent moon and five stars from Singapore's National Flag, the logo features the lion, which is symbolic of the country's name Singapura, or "Lion City".
The year marked the celebration of Singapore's Bicentennial founding by the British in 1819 as well as the 60th anniversary of the unveiling of the National Flag.
